As our Cirencester boutique re-opens its doors following a full refurbishment, our Day Trip Diaries takes a visit to the Cotswold market town to sample its sights, tastes and sounds.

Nestled in the heart of the Cotswolds, Cirencester is the ideal subject for our latest day trip – large enough to fill a day of exploring, yet small enough to easily cover on foot.

You’re likely to start your explorations in the town’s focal point – its market square, which hosts farmers’ markets on alternate Saturdays, and the Charter Market, selling fresh food, plants, local produce and crafts, taking place on Mondays and Fridays. Here you’ll find one of the town’s most famous sites, the 900-year-old Church of St John the Baptist – an awe-inspiring building that lends the street a marvellous sense of scale and history. Within the Market Place is our timber-framed Sahara boutique, which has re-opened its doors following a full refresh.

“We love spending the day in this stunning building. Truly a happy place to be for both our staff and our customers,” says our Store Manager, Deborah. “At Sahara Cirencester we are proud to provide helpful advice and expert knowledge, ensuring every one of our customers feels happy, confident and relaxed in our company. Shopping should be fun, after all.”

An easy walk from Sahara will bring you to many of the town’s most famous attractions – from the Corinium Museum (also home to the Visitor Centre), New Brewery Arts, St. Michael’s Park and the Abbey Grounds. Along route you’ll discover a host of independent shops and eateries, with plenty of places to stop for a cup of tea. When ready for lunch, two destinations recommended by the team at our Sahara boutique are the nearby The Fleece and Made by Bob – the latter of which also houses a deli packed with bread, cheese and charcuterie, as well as pastries, cakes and soup, all of which can be taken away.

The perfect post lunch activity could be a stroll around Cirencester Park, which forms part of The Bathurst Estate. The Earl and Countess Bathurst reside in the Mansion, a stately home that sits within the town, but is screened from its neighbours by the tallest yew hedge in the world.

Another local favourite spot is the scenic Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool, located on the edge of Cirencester Park, which offers visitors the unique opportunity to swim in natural spring water.

The town has plenty of places to stay, but with so many idyllic local villages and towns on its doorsteps, you’ll be spoilt for locations to explore.

You can find Sahara, Cirencester at  9 Market Place, Cirencester, GL7 2NX. We are open seven days a week.
