ENVIRONMENTAL CONSCIENCE

Our Approach to Sustainability

Think Local

As proud supporters of British manufacturing, ‘Made in England’ is important to Sahara and in an effort to ensure the survival and growth of British Made, over 50 percent of Sahara’s collections are made on home soil, with over 80 percent manufactured in the EU. Sahara only works with fairly trading partners and we make a conscious effort to use closed-loop factories with low emissions, most of which are family-run. We source manufacturers in the countries of each fabric’s origin to reduce our carbon footprint. All Sahara collections are ordered in limited quantities, with little to no wastage.

Naturally Better

We are more aware than ever of the importance of looking after our environment, and the ways in which fast fashion can negatively affect it. The story of our garments begins with the crops they’re made from. Sahara strives to produce clothing made from natural fabrics as much as possible, such as linen, wool, cotton, and sustainable viscose. Our thoughtful fabric selection allows us to increasingly use textiles with sustainable certifications, from Oeko-Tex and Global Recyclable Standards to wood-pulp derived lyocell. With this, we believe that choosing the correct fabrics at design stage ensures our collections perform their very best, resulting in superior comfort, natural temperature control and breathability.

To Last a Lifetime

From the fabric foundations to the construction and attention to detail of our clothing, we take extra care to ensure that every Sahara piece is designed to be loved and last a lifetime. We work with skilled teams for the best quality manufacturing with consistent quality checks throughout. Many of our fabrics are specially developed by Sahara’s creative and production team with prints that are exclusive to Sahara. We believe that fit and comfort is of utmost importance when designing flattering, timeless clothing that you want to wear again and again.

Sustainable Certifications

STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® is one of the world's best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances. It stands for customer confidence and high product safety. In the test, they take into account numerous regulated and non-regulated substances, which may be harmful to human health. In many cases, the limit values for the STANDARD 100 go beyond national and international requirements.

We Love Linen

Linen has been a core fabric of Sahara’s designs for over a decade. The wonders of this fabric, cultivated from pure flaxseed, are vast – not only is it easy to wear and effortlessly elegant, but its ethical properties are like no other with 80% of flax fibre being harvested in Europe, flax seed only requires rainwater to grow and has absolutely no GMOs. We are proud to support the CELC campaign, I LOVE LINEN annually.
